I recced the previous two stories in this series already (Unexplained and Explained), and this one is a good read too. The Supernatural world functions more as a vehicle for Don-whump than as equal crossover partner in this one, but it's not as if I dislike seeing Don hurt, and angst while he adjusts his worldview to the supernatural.

This is set during the X-Files episode "Fallen Angel", which I barely remembered, but the story still worked for me. We get the events of the episode but seen from the perspective (and worldview) of young Sam and Dean. I thought it was really cool how one side believes it's all aliens, and the other it's all supernatural and I was wondering what was really going on. And I liked Sam and Dean adventuring.

The premise here is that Sam runs into Oz during Mystery Spot. I found this via Cofax and am really enjoying it so far. The parts are all quite short, but it is updated very often.

They all run across each other on Earth while hunting wraith. This mixed the mythologies of the two shows in a cool way. (As a side note, even though the author labelled it McKay/Sheppard slash, it read gen to me.)

Journeyman/Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
I'm a bit ambivalent about this one, because I would have liked to learn so much more of what happened. In a way it is more the start of what could have been an longer story. OTOH a timetravel crossover mixing Journeyman and Dan's involuntary timetravel with the Sarah Connor Chronicles is such a great fit, and I really like the setup here and the possibilities their meeting here opens.

This is also a bit of an AU, because of course in canon the Winchesters moved around a lot, but it feels more like a crossover than an AU. An the idea of Sam and Dean growing up in Dillon while John still hunts is simply awesome.

classic crossover rec

The fanlore wiki doesn't just cause me even more online activity dreams, it also makes me reminisce about past fandoms, and think fondly of fic I've read. Unfortunately too often I can't find the stories again, because sites and archives vanish. :(

I'd never thought one of my favorite X-Files/Homicide crossovers, Saundra's Mulder/Bayliss Slash-Evidence series, which I saw mentioned on fanlore, could be so hard to find again in its entirety, because X-Files is such a well archived fandom, and I remember it not just on her site but also on the Annex Novel archive and Gossamer, and on some slash archive or other, and its parts won a bunch of awards, yet when I looked for it today I found her site long gone and only some parts of the series in the archives that are still around, but not all stories. :(

However, since the parts are finished stories, and the first couple are still around I'm going to rec it anyway, because I reread the first parts and still like it, ten years after I first read the series. I found a WayBack Machine link to her site that lists the parts, but unfortunately the stories themselves aren't archived.

The main stories in the series were grouped in four arcs: Forward Slash, with the stories Young Blooded, Signature, Worst Case Scenario and Segue: Litany and Requiem is still available at Gossamer completely, also on other sites.

Trace Evidence, with the stories Inadmissable, Hobson's Choice, Say Goodnight and Coda: Penance and Lamentation, has unfortunately only the first part still available easily.

However I found Hobson's Choice in ten parts at the google archive of alt.tv.x-files.creative *hearts usenet* here: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.

also Say Goodnight in ten parts too: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.

and Coda: Penance and Lamentation in three parts: 1, 2, 3.

The third set of stories Cold Cases is archived at Gossamer: Filial Piety, Prescient Perception I, Prescient Perception II, and Epilogue.

The fourth set Sacrament of Silence started with: Segue: The Ties That Bind and Empty Cage was posted in 13 parts but only three of those made it into the usenet archive. (BTW, if anyone on my f-list has a complete copy or knows where to find it, I'd be really grateful.)

There were also a number of vignettes, some also available at Gossamer. Anyway, I dug it up as best as I could for you to read easily. It's a great series.

I really enjoyed this insight into John at the beginning of his hunting life, and the outsider look at Sarah. And of course John would have the worst luck in that that he picks Sarah Connor & Co to run into early on.

There's something about crossovers between Supernatural and Terminator that really appeals to me. The universes just go together like hazelnuts and chocolate, IMO. Anyway, this one has the unique premise that Ash used to know John Connor in high school.

Sam Beckett leaps into John Winchester when Dean and Sam were still children. There is a good case story, and Beckett has to deal with finding out that the supernatural is real, and handle two young Winchesters.

This is a good action-adventure, and I liked how the shows' mythologies were meshed, even though I'm not that into the whole breeding cult arc of DA season two. Also Alec, Sam and Dean together are just fun to watch.

Recently Penknife offered to write timestamp fic, and I noticed that I never recced the original crossover for which I requested a timestamp. Anyway, in the first Erik Lehnsherr encounters Tom Riddle in 1950, the timestamp is set during the first Voldemort war/the Marauders era, and both are interesting and well worth reading.

Notes/comments: I did this for the prompt "SGA/Avatar the Last Airbender crossover" for the SGA fanart fest Painted Spires, as additional fanart for the Amnesty Week. This is more a fusion than a crossover, but I think it's still within the prompt's parameters. Originally this was supposed to be a series of portraits with each of the team matched with an element from Avatar (I thought after Teyla I'd do Rodney as Earthbender, Ronon as Firebender, and John as Airbender), but I only managed to finish Teyla in time to still post (just barely) during Amnesty Week.

The people with the ATA gene are regarded as pets in this AU, though then it turned somewhat atypical for slave/mindcontrol fic (and has a sad ending), but it still worked for my kinks.

After Such Knowledge, by Sarah T. Het, Michael/Teyla Emmagan. (ca. 7,500 words)
This is an AU of Michael's storyline, with the premise that Michael chose to remain human because Teyla was more honest with him.

Sequelae, by The Spike. Gen, John Sheppard, Rodney McKay, Jennifer Keller. (ca. 26,000 words)
It's a futurefic that goes AU during Adrift, though the past of how Atlantis was lost and the cause of the rift in John and Rodney's friendship is only gradually revealed, as John suddenly shows up at Rodney's doorstep, having a retrovirus relapse.

Pegasus Ascendant, by Tielan. Gen, Teyla Emmagan. (ca. 1,830 words)
Pegasus is without Wraith and various Pegasus people share control over Atlantis as the Earth expedition makes contact. I find the premise here very cool, though I wished there was more than this opening. I'm definitely hoping for a sequel.

In this snippet Ellen observes Sarah, John and Cameron at a gun show, and it gives a great outsider POV of the three.

Stephen King's Christine/Supernatural
I haven't read Christine, but this was still a very enjoyable casefile type of story with neat twists in the the car's background. So if you like to read about the Winchesters hunting monsters or evil cars in this case, you should give this a try.

This gives us another glimpse at Crichton as Runner, like in the previous FS/SGA crossover by Tassos that I've also recced. And seeing him interact with Dean is just fun.

Choice of Duty, by Kyrdwyn. Gen, John Sheppard, Radek Zelenka. (ca. 4,680 words)
The premise here is that John is ex-military, and didn't join the Atlantis mission as military, but as a scientist. After Sumner's death, which happens later here than in canon, he's drafted back into active duty by Elizabeth. I'm not sure I see Elizabeth quite this way, but the interaction between John and Radek made this a nice read.

The Winchesters are trying to stop a psychic arsonist at CalSci, which we see through the eyes of the Eppes. I liked how competent Sam and Dean were in this story as well as the the outsider look at them.

Criminal Minds/Supernatural
This is set after the second season finale of Supernatural. While Sam tries to get Dean out of the deal with the demon with the help of Bobby and Ellen, Dean is taken into custody by the FBI and interrogated and evaluated by the BAU team. I really enjoyed the take of the profiler team on Dean, and how they try to make sense of him and revise their opinions without ever actually buying into Dean's supernatural worldview.

I don't read a lot of Wincest, but I think this crossover is a great read even if you prefer gen. It's a lot of fun, humor mixed into the angst and drama, and the merge of the Potterverse with SPN here works great, and I liked the take on goblins and their magic in particular.

John Winchester hunts the Corinthian, meanwhile Sam and Dean get lost in the Dreaming. This crossover is a great blend of the two sources.

New Jersey Voodoo, by Rokeon. Gen. (ca. 1,020 words)
House/Stargate: Atlantis
This is short, but really funny. John has a relapse back towards Bug!John, starting with an at first innocuous rash and progressing from there, and House tries to diagnose.

Late Nite at the Sudzy Dudz, by Sarah Ellen. Gen. (ca. 3,500 words)
Supernatural/The X-Files
I have no idea how I could have missed reading this story for so long. This crossover is a lot of fun. I guess you could sum it up as "Mulder and Scully meet the Wincesters in a laundromat and talk about cattle mutilations." but the dialog is awesome and it made me laugh a lot, while still being plausible and in character within both series.

So far this seems to be a basic "let's make these characters meet" crossover, but it has a plot that makes sense and the way the universes are mixed is interesting. It's not exactly the canon universe for Dark Angel in that there was no Pulse, but it still feels more like a crossover than an AU premise. X5-494 is given the mission to kidnap Sam for the Manticore program, so he tries to impersonate Dean.

Bent, by Rachel Martin. Gen, Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester, Ororo Munroe, Scott Summers, Logan. (ca. 12,300 words so far) WIP
Supernatural/X-Men
This is set during the SPN episode Benders. Scott thinks that one of the Winchestes is an out-of-control mutant and goes to search for them to stop the deaths he thinks the Winchesters are responsible for.

crossover dreams

I had a rather neat Harry Potter/The Sarah Connor Chronicles dream. Unfortunately I didn't write it down right after waking up, so I've already forgotten the plot, but it was full of action-adventure stuff. I think, iirc, the main premise was somehow that the SkyNet and Terminator machines were initially built to take care of the wizard war problems and fallout by the muggles for their protection against magic, perhaps even through time travel, only of course that backfired somehow (don't ask me how the HP and Terminator timelines were made to match up, it just worked in my dream!), and now John Connor had to fight both the Terminators and evil wizards or something. I think he and his mom may have hooked up with Harry & Co. at some point, but I'm not sure anymore of the details. Still it was a pretty cool dream. And of course there'd be great potential for our teenage heroes who are expected to save the world to commiserate in this setup, but my dream wasn't heavy on the teenage savior angst.

It's somewhat like a Harlequin romance story. Rodney, who works at the SGC, has an accident with Sheppard, who lives on the streets as result from his severe PTSD and dishonorable discharge, which circumstances are slowly revealed through the story. Then friendship and romance follow with a fair but not overwhelming amount of angst.

Everybody recced this already, but it a really good present-day (no Stargate) amnesia AU, in which Rodney looses his memory suddenly without explanation, and we see him (re-)discovering and to some extent redefining himself and his relationships to friends and family through Sheppard's POV.

Draco goes through potential alternative universes with a pensieve-like device, exploring what would have happened if he (or Harry) made different decisions. It's a cool magical device and the scenarios are HP fandom staples, but handled in an original way, often with not quite the expected outcome.

X-Men Movieverse

Forgotten, by [info]cyndrarae. Slash, Scott/Logan. (ca. 2,450 words)
In this AU Scott survives X3 but has amnesia, and Logan eventually finds him. Also it is hookerfic, so you get two fannish tropes in one, which in this case is definitely a good thing, since they go great together with Scott angst.




Crossover Recs

Sandman/Stargate: SG-1/Stargate: Atlantis
It's a "Five Things" type story in which SGA and SG-1 characters meet the Endless, and while each vignette is short, they are also gorgeous.

I recently reread this story, and was surprised to find that I never recced it. It's four brief AUs all with cool worldbuilding, and all dealing with a different kind of amnesia or altered mind.

Junk Cheap, by [info]devildoll. (ca. 13,000 words)
This AU is just sweet and fun, and John as a junk shop owner was kind of awesome.

Harvest Festival, by [info]ras_fic. Slash, Rodney McKay/John Sheppard. (ca. 6,800 words)
This is a cool twist on the "AMTDI because of some backward fertility ritual" cliche, because in this AU the expedition members are Pegasus natives, and Rodney is a disgruntled priest, who's annoyed with the tradition of fertility rituals he doesn't believe in.

The One Where They're Antiglobalization Protestors, by [info]sapote3. Slash, Rodney McKay/John Sheppard, team. (ca. 8,200 words)
Besides being biased in favor of this setting for meta reasons, I liked that the whole team was brought into this AU in a convincing way, and the vivid descriptions and worldbuilding.

John and Rodney work at an aquarium, and I don't actually remember many more specifics, except that it was a nice, entertaining romance story.

Thule-Gesellschaft, by [info]valderys. Slash, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay. (ca. 7,600 words)
This look at how the alternate universe from the episode McKay & Mrs. Miller might be was creepy and kind of depressing, but full of cool wordbuilding too.

Supernatural

Physiologus, by [info]imogenics. Gen, Sam, Dean. (ca. 5,630 words)
In this AU Sam was pre-med instead of pre-law and tries to find a scientific order in the supernatural phenomena they encounter.

The Sunless Land by [info]lyra_wing. Slash, Sam/Dean, Meg, John. (ca. 11,700 words)
It's kind of rare for me to read Wincest fic, but that they didn't grow up together in this AU made it much easier for me to buy that they'd be attracted to each other, and I have a soft spot for stories in which Sam is kidnapped by the YED and grows up with him and Meg, especially when they are not OTT dark fic, but the demon is still creepy, like in this one.

I like outsider viewpoints, so looking at the pre-series Winchesters from Carol Hathaway's POV was really neat.

Highlander/Miracles
I admit that I was a little bit lost with the demon plot in this story, because I know very little about Highlander (I've only watched a handful of the first season ages ago and a couple of xovers), but I couldn't resist the allure of Miracles fic. Even missing some of the Highlander context, this was still a very cool x-over premise, not least because Alva as an immortal would not just fit with him knowing all those languages, but explain why that investigation firm of his apparently doesn't really needs to earn money, yet he can still pay his employees.
