this week's SGA
Overall I liked the ep. I enjoyed the way Ronon and Carter were feeling each other out, the Ronon and Teyla scenes, actually most of the character stuff.

The Sam and Rodney scenes at the beginning however were rather hard on my embarrassment squick. I cringed a lot when Rodney was talking and had to stop watching a couple of times. Also, it was kind of mean of John to sabotage Rodney's welcome fruit basket idea like that, and claim it for himself. Petty jealousy like that (whether in the het reading that he's into Carter too, or in the slash reading that he doesn't want Rodney to hook up with her, because he's into Rodney and fears for his chances in light of Rodney's persistent crush) is just not an attractive trait.

John made up for it though IMO when he told Ronon how much he appreciates him. That was a lot better talk than many of his usual inept attempts. Not that that is saying much, but still. And then his expression when Ronon told him he's decided to leave anyway made me feel sorry for John.

I wondered right away how Ronon's buddies got their intelligence about the Wraith lab, especially about what the Wraith are working on. I can buy a spy network of Pegasus people, so locations of labs being known isn't such a leap, but why would Wraith let any humans near their research? Of course when it turned out they were collaborators and Wraith worshippers, and the whole thing a trap it becomes clear, though really Sheppard (or at least Carter) should have asked where the intelligence came from.

And then when they go inside? I wondered, why they didn't just blow the whole thing up. I mean, the usual SGC answer to problems is to nuke them after all...

At the end, the scene with the picture, that Rodney went through Ronon's stuff as soon as he was gone to get some keepsake was kind of sweet.

Oh, ditto, big-time ditto. I tried to watch it live but the first scene with Rodney and Radek had me cringing so badly that I taped it and watched it this morning, fast-forwarding through most of the Carter stuff.

I did really like the Ronon story, though, and I'm glad it was the A story. That guy can act -- and I love the explanation for JM's new tattoo.

Yeah, I really liked the Ronon story too. Though I wish they'd do a Teyla-centric ep sometime also.

From your mouth to the producers' ears.

I think it could be awesome if they did an ep that addressed how the Athosians are fairing as a background thing. Like there could be some sort of adventure/emergency on that planet they relocated to after the Return ep, the Lanteans could help as allies, and naturally in that situation with Teyla in a central role because she knows the terrain or whatever from her occasional visits, and Halling could make a guest appearance or something. Or she could be invited to some Athosian celebration, and Teyla brings the team and then something goes wrong. It would be really easy to give her a nice standalone ep.

Oh, you should write one of those! I especially love the Athosian celebration idea. Cool.
